I have a fairly well paying job in law enforcement but I was going through a marital separation.

Paying child support and spousal support left me with barely enough money to live on, let alone pay the debts that I had.

I spoke with my Employee and Family Assistance Program and they recommended that I speak to YanchDey.

I didn’t know what they could do for me and I was nervous to contact them. I assumed that if I did not pay my debts in full and looked at any kind of bankruptcy or proposal that it could negatively affect my job.

When I met with the trustee I was immediately reassured.  They were non judgemental and explained I wasn’t alone and they could help me.

We discussed my debts and the options available to me, it was a relief just to be able to speak to someone about this.

The Trustee explained to me that my employment would not be affected and it was rare that an employer is even notified.

After going over my situation and looking at all the options I decided to file a consumer proposal.

Together with the Trustee we decided that a consumer proposal was best for me.  I wouldn’t lose any possessions and the debt would be reduced dramatically.

My credit rating was going to be affected, but it was already bad.  If anything my credit rating could only go up after starting.

I was struck by how important it was to the Trustee to make sure that the proposal payment was one I could afford.

I was given a new chance with a new loan that was thousands less, the payment was over 5 years, and I could easily afford to pay it.

I’ve completed the proposal, I’m in a new relationship and have purchased a new home, life is good!

To be perfectly honest, filing the proposal was not something I ever thought I would have to do.

It was a real low point in my life, but I am so glad that I did it and glad that I got the referral to YanchDey.
